COCKTAIL HOUR (2021) is my first short film (written and directed by me). We are currently submitting it to film festivals, but I hope to someday post the film here. I have shifted a lot of my focus to writing (mostly screenplays) since 2014, and it’s been so exciting to finally marry this with my visual side of things, via directing, for this film.
COCKTAIL HOUR follows David and Andrew, who have decided to both give sperm samples for an equal chance at being the biological father to their future child. While sexed-up David seems to be a bottomless well of supply, uptight Andrew runs dry. Escaping the sterile fertility clinic to a nearby motel, Andrew vows to try again, but as the pressure mounts, Andrew starts to unravel at the thought of being a dad. It takes his partner’s patience and love to get him back to the deed at hand, reassuring him that they are both ready for this.
This short film serves as a proof of concept for my TV pilot project, LET’S MAKE A BABY, about three unique, diverse Brooklyn couples, living seemingly separate lives, that all want a baby, but cannot do it the old-fashion way. Rather, they must explore alternative routes to parenthood, all while navigating their complicated love lives in the city.
